A few things about me
Hi there! 👋
My name is Florencia Luz Duarte. I'm a Software Developer specializing in Front-End Development with a background of +10 years in Product Design.
I love creating content about Web Development on social media as @unicornio.dev, I'm part of several tech communities and I collaborate with different open-source projects from time to time.
Changing career paths at age 30
Between my 29th and 30th birthday, I decided to make a career change. Curiosity has always taken me to unexpected paths and this case wasn't the exception. At that time, I had recently graduated with a postgraduate degree in Management of Technology and Innovation. That's when I became interested in the world of Software.
I quickly began searching for ways to learn programming as a self-taught. The YouTube algorithm led me to the videos of a coding school named apx.school, I joined their online community and the rest is history.
What began with a few lines of HTML and CSS, end up becoming a new professional direction for me and a more generalized change in other aspects of my life.
How to become a self-taught programmer without dying in the process
In my 20s I graduated as an Industrial Designer from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and, I had the chance to be an assistant teacher in that same institution for 3 years.
When I started thinking about making a career change I found myself between two options: going back to college for a second degree or making my path as a self-taught. In the end, the second option was the winner.
For this new phase, I took the self-educated route because it adapts better to myself and my personal goals for this particular moment in my life. To be honest with you, being self-taught isn't an easy endeavor. You have to be your own guide and coach while you navigate a complex and changing software ecosystem.
I put together this blog to share my learning experiences, provide resources and tips for tech newcomers, and document my career journey (with its highs and lows and all the stages in between).
Upcoming Goals
Today many things motivate me:
✨ I wish to see this project grow by steadily generating more and more content for all of you.
✨ I seek to advance in my professional career by picking more challenging projects and collaborating with others.
✨ I want to upgrade my knowledge and keep sharing this self-taught journey with all of you by documenting my advances on the OSSU Computer Science curricula.
✨ I wish to get a job as a DevRel in the future because I believe this position will allow me to integrate all the different faces of my career in one position. Let's see if I make it happen! 💪
Not everything has to do with coding
I'm the proud mother of 3 gorgeous and perfect cats. I live with my fiancee (I hope he gets the Husband title soon 🤞). He is my main source of support and encourages me on every project.
In my free time, I love cooking (especially bread and desserts), I'm a huge fan of books and I need coffee to live ☕️ .
My favorite place in the world is Mendoza, Argentina. I hope to move there shortly. I believe Mendoza is by far the best Argentinian province.
Team Winter forever ❄️. Each year I hate summer more and more. I wish to evaporate from Buenos Aires every January.
I hope you find some good information in this humble blog, or at least, some motivation to continue advancing in your coding journey.
This is the end of my long presentation. It took far more effort to write these lines than to code the entire website 😅
Thanks for visiting and I hope you enjoy 🫶
